In these exercises, students
read a text; the text is then taken from them and they have to write down
everything they can recall about it. It is important that students use
L1 when writing, in order to avoid confusing the object of assessment.
The approach has the advantage of omitting questions from the test and
thus removing one variable that might distort assessment. The task is
best marked by building a mark scheme based around distinct ideas contained
in the text.
